My Experience at GlowMetrics by Cece

Over the past month I have completed a summer internship with GlowMetrics which has been a wonderful experience. I am currently a Psychology student at the University of Bath, and therefore I don’t have a lot of experience in Marketing or business in general, but Joanne and the entire Glowmetrics team have been so helpful and I have definitely learnt a lot.

Throughout my internship I’ve had the opportunity to gain experience in many different aspects of digital marketing, such as PPC and SEO. I’ve had experience of working with eCommerce and B2B (Business to Business) clients and have really enjoyed both. I’ve found it very interesting finding the difference between these 2 types of businesses, and how this might impact their digital marketing in the channels they utilise, the language included in these ads and the audiences their advertising is targeted towards. This was a great benefit of completing my internship in an agency, as being able to work with a wider range of businesses definitely meant I’ve made the most out of my past month of work.

Additionally I’ve had the opportunity to work closely on Google Ads, having the opportunity to add extensions, edit or even draft ads for various accounts. This has been very interesting, as these tasks often require considering the perspectives of both the consumer and marketer. Therefore aiming to understand what ad content is going to be the most effective in both representing the company and grabbing the attention of the customer.

I have also gained insight in drafting MetaData, this has the importance of improving Google’s ranking of a website in search results, as well as increasing the click through rate by making the websites seem more interesting to consumers. Although the limited character count was difficult, I definitely enjoyed the challenge!

Furthermore I have been working on Google Ad certifications, gaining Google Display and search credentials. I have really enjoyed these informative courses and understand the importance of gaining such a widely recognised qualification, not only to improve my understanding of digital marketing, but also for future employment opportunities.

Overall, this internship has displayed the importance of digital marketing in this increasingly online-based society. I’ve found it fascinating how impactful digital marketing can be on a business’s success, by moving further up search engine results or appearing more frequently on social media. This insight has really changed my perspective on digital marketing, displaying its importance within the industry. This internship has also provided me with important experience in professional settings, I have really enjoyed gaining further understanding of the world of work and have loved being in the office. This internship was an amazing opportunity and a great way to bridge the gap between University and post graduate work. I would definitely recommend a placement or internship to anyone considering, as it really is invaluable experience. Especially if you have the opportunity to complete one at GlowMetrics, as the entire team has been so helpful and welcoming; it is a wonderful place to work.

I’d first like to say thank you to Kyle, Anna and Nicola (the Digital Marketing team) for all of their help throughout the past month, they’ve definitely taught me a lot and being able to work on their clients’ accounts has been extremely interesting. Lastly I would like to say a massive thank you to Joanne and all of GlowMetrics for having me, it’s been a lovely experience and a great way to spend my summer!
